Who is Netjer
First of all, I should give a definition of Netjer for those of you who do not know what it means. Netjer (also "Neter/ also Nejeru/Neteru for pl.) is the Kemetic word for God.
So, who is Netjer? At The Temple of Amun we believe that Netjer's name is Amun. His name means "The Hidden One." Being hidden, he is often associated with the wind, and also the power of creation. I believe that in the beginning of time before there were any other spirit creatures or anything else in existance there was none other than Amun and Nun.
Nun is the vast, motionless body of water from which all things were created. According to Amun himself, at one time Nun and Amun were one and Amun actually was within Nun, as the power within it and then at some point in time some of the power present in Nun seperated itself. This was in effect Amun "creating himself" from out of Nun.
Amun is "The Hidden One" because of his very nature. Never having been created, Amun has been in existance far longer that any human can fathom. As Netjer, he is not contained within human form, nor any other form that we can imagine. He is too vast a being to be contained, even within the universe that contains the billions of galaxies and stars. He is completely seperate. He is also too powerful a being for us to comprehend. We can barely believe the things we see he has created, imagine the many other possiblities such power could bring about. Also, his Holiness is beyond comprehension. Therefore he cannot be of the earth or imagination.
In simple words: Amun is Netjer and he had no beginning. He "created" himself by seperating himself from Nun. He is "The Hidden One" that is too vast, complex, powerful, and Holy for us to truly understand without much assistance. Despite his very nature and his Holiness, he is not unknowable to us. We can infact draw extermely close to Amun and he wishes us to do so. We have only to open our hearts and minds and let him quide us.
